While there typically is only one night of fireworks, Macy’s is spreading things out this year amid the pandemic. For those located in New York, expect 5-minute fireworks displays across the five boroughs occurring on several days leading up to and including July 4. Those outside of the city can tune into NBC on Saturday, July 4 to watch the broadcast, which will air from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Who Is Performing?
This year, John Legend is headlining the show. The EGOT winner will be featured on a new arrangement of “America the Beautiful,” set to a golden mile of fireworks. Additionally, fans can expect a salute to front-line workers from Mayo Clinic surgeon Dr. Elvis (“Lean on Me”). Both performances will feature additional vocals from the Young People’s Chorus of NYC.

Set against the backdrop of the New York skyline, the Macy’s fireworks show typically draws nearly 3 million in-person spectators, as well as 15 million through a television broadcast, according to the company.

While Macy’s does not reveal information regarding the cost of the production, Fox Business estimates that the fireworks alone could cost $6 million, even at wholesale prices.
