Coach is trying to break free. Ever since the high-end leather-goods brand turned its eye toward a more accessible customer — with a presence in what seems like every shopping mall in the world — it has slowly attempted a return to its luxury roots, each season presenting a bolder, less commercial assortment of footwear.

Its latest men’s show in London was no exception. Creative Director Stuart Vevers didn’t pussyfoot around forward-thinking menswear for spring ’16, focusing on sneakers in loud, graffiti-style prints.

Low- and high-top styles combined colorful prints with texture. Cheetah-print toe caps were paired with asymmetrical, purple suede panels on the side. Some shoes featured fur tongues, in black or dyed indigo.

Last season, the brand focused on shearling touches, so it’s interesting to see how Vevers took that a step further for spring by adding vivid colorways. Fur slide sandals even made an appearance on the runway, with a printed footbed.

While the show offered fresh design experimentation, Coach also offered its classic leather sneakers. White high-tops featured a subtle squiggle print, while black low-tops had one side panel of print — a more viable option for the mall rat.
