Brunello Cucinelli will never be an experimental fashion label. It refuses, however, to be left on the sidelines. For spring ’17, the men’s collection updated by taking a drastically more casual turn, from looser suits with jogger pants to a majorly amped-up sneaker focus.
We kid you not with the athleisure focus: Almost 80 percent of the offering was sneakers, with the occasional monk strap or lace-up dress shoe thrown in for good measure. The sneakers ranged from luxe suede low-tops in a sumptuous camel color to washed canvas styles with thick rubber soles.
And if that wasn’t casual enough, Cucinelli offered his take on flip-flops and slides, which were done in suede and denim. You can wear them by the pool — just don’t get them wet.
The Cucinelli customer will undoubtedly play into the new look — it doesn’t feel drastically different — but newer, younger customers (with a knack for luxury, that is) will be drawn to it, too.
