In honor of Marilyn Monroe’s 90th birthday today, FN rounded up some of the style icon’s best shoe moments over the years. As Monroe is rumored to have said, “‘Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”
Monroe was known for her glamour and sex appeal, and her shoes did their part. Styles she favored included ankle-strap platform sandals, slingbacks, high-heeled slides and classic pumps — all very popular looks in the 1950s.
Monroe was also a fan of Salvatore Ferragamo. The Italian designer created more than 40 pairs of shoes for the actress.
Monroe made her mark in Hollywood with several hit films, including “Niagra,” “How to Marry a Millionare,” “Gentleman Prefer Blondes,” “The Seven Year Itch,” “Some Like it Hot” and “The Misfits.” The actress got her start as a pinup girl in the 1940s.
Since her death in 1962, countless books, T.V. movies, Monroe-inspired photo shoots and feature films, such as “My Week With Marilyn,” starring Michelle Williams and the television show “Smash,” have maintained her legacy.
