Reebok Updates Its Classic Leather Sneaker with Maison Margiela’s Iconic Split-Toe Design

Reebok and Maison Margiela are back with their next collaboration. This time around the brands went back into the archives and updated Reebok’s 1983 Classic Leather silhouette with Margiela’s iconic split-toe Tabi design, which was created in 1988.

The new style, evolved with help from Margiela’s creative director, John Galliano, is detailed with a hand-painted white coating on a black leather upper. It’s the signature bianchetto technique from the French house, which purposely chips with wear. In addition, to accommodate the split-toe feature, the Reebok sneaker was rebuilt, according to the company.

The shoes will launch online on Jan. 30 for $350 at maisonmargiela.com and reebok.com.

Kim Kardashian West has already got her hands on the anticipated new style. On Monday, she unveiled the sneaker on her Instagram Stories.

This is the second launch as part of the brands’ ongoing partnership. Their first collab debuted during Paris Fashion Week Couture in January of last year. Then in September, the Maison Margiela x Reebok Tabi Instapump Fury was released, which included heeled and flat iterations. This marked the first time Reebok released a heeled version of the Instapump Fury silhouette.

According to the brands, the first collab played on the idea of analyzing “the conversation between humanity and technology in the digital age.” Maison Margiela proclaimed the look the “statement shoe for the age of the cyber-industrial revolution.”

Meanwhile, the Classic Leather Tabi drop represents Margiela’s deconstructive design philosophy, while also unifying the ideas of innovation with nostalgia and fashion-meets-functionality in a contemporary design.
