Spats, also known as spatterdashes or spatter guards, are an outdoor footwear accessory used to protect shoes from the rain, mud and more. Made of white cloth and featuring buttons around the ankle, they were commonly worn in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These days, you can make a fashion statement by wearing spats out and about casually but you’re more likely to buy them to complete a vintage-inspired costume for Halloween or cosplay. With this in mind, we rounded up some of our favorite options on the market for men. Shop ahead for all these throwback styles.

3. Director’s Showcase Spats
