Melania Trump hosted a roundtable on Improving the Lives of Americans Living with Sickle Cell Disease at the White House this week and opted for a chic look for the occasion.
Arriving at the State Dining Room yesterday for the event, the first lady debuted a white sleeveless dress with a cinched belt waist and a knee-sweeping hemline; the design comes from one of her favorite brands, Max Mara, and retails for $945 at Net-a-Porter. The white colorway of her dress itself was a bold move as an age-old fashion decree discourages wearing white after Labor Day.
Not only did her choice of dress make a statement but so did her footwear of the day. Her standout pointed-toe orange pumps came complete with smooth suede uppers and a dipping vamp, all atop a sky-high stiletto heel — resembling her favorite BB pump silhouette from Manolo Blahnik.
As the fashion legend goes, Labor Day marks the end of summer and therefore the end of white ensembles and footwear for the season. The reasoning and theories behind this unwritten rule range amongst sources but whatever the reason may be, the age-old decree always causes a divide in the industry — certain stars follow the precedent to a T while others, like Hailey Baldwin, Rihanna and more, dare to wear all-white looks all year long.
For Melania Trump, her white Max Mara dress is just one of many statement designer pieces in her closet. It includes pieces from Ralph Lauren and Gucci, as well as bespoke designs from her personal stylist, Herve Pierre, former creative director for Carolina Herrera. In addition to her bright orange pair, the former model oftentimes favors towering heels like Manolo Blahnik’s Irene pumps, as well as Christian Louboutin’s signature So Kate 5-inch heels. She has also been spotted in flatter styles from Roger Vivier and Dior.
