After finding success with the Power Store concept in London, Liverpool and Hong Kong, Foot Locker opened the first of its kind in the U.S. in Michigan in January 2019. Today, the sneaker retail giant opened another, this time in California.
Foot Locker opened a Power Store in Compton today, a 12,800 square-foot space that is designed to provide an elevated and “home grown” retail experience. This door features shopping for the entire family with product exclusive to the location, a curbside pickup window, custom artwork both inside and outside by local artists Mel Depaz and AngelOnce and an activation space for community events.
Also, Foot Locker said it will host neighborhood clean-ups, maintain a community garden and will hire local by partnering with the City of Compton to recruit talent within a five-mile radius of the store.
The store will be stocked with footwear, apparel and accessories from leading brands such as including Nike, Jordan Brand, Converse, Adidas, Puma and others. It will also feature exclusive and limited-release product from local brands such as Viva La Bonita, Ugly Primo, Mel Depaz and K-Swiss x Mike Reesé.
Staring tomorrow, Foot Locker will host a series of events — in accordance with local safety guidelines — to celebrate the opening. The “Home Grown Celebration” is scheduled for tomorrow from 12 p.m. PT to 3 p.m. ET, which will showcase the aforementioned local brands. “Good Will Day” will take place Friday where people will receive a “golden ticket” while supplies last for access to upcoming releases by signing up for a local community cleanup or by donating at least $1 to the Compton Advocates Coalition.
Saturday is “Nike Appreciation Day,” which will feature the Drew League Donation Ceremony and Foot Locker x Nike branded giveaways from 3 p.m. PT to 6 p.m. PT. Lastly, Jordan Brand’s “School from Home” will take place from 12 p.m. PT to 3 p.m. PT with the first 200 families receiving a “School from Home” kit featuring pre-packaged lunch and an opportunity to be part of the Foot Locker x Jordan tutoring program.
“As part of our commitment to bring the best localized expression of Foot Locker to consumers, we are excited to expand our Power Store model to the West Coast with a new location in Compton,” SVP and GM of Foot Locker U.S. Bryon Milburn said in a statement. “Compton is a passionate market for sneaker culture, and we look forward to creating immersive brand connections from the local store staff, to the in-store experiences and products we offer.”
The Foot Locker Power Store in Compton is located at 205 East Compton Boulevard and is open from 11 a.m. PT to 7 p.m. PT.
Foot Locker opened its first “Power Store” on Jan. 29, 2019, in Eastpointe, Mich., on the city’s famed 8 Mile Road. The door features 8,500 square feet of retail space and includes a women’s shop-in-shop and a Kids Foot Locker, making it equipped to serve the entire family. Aside from the product offering, Foot Locker said the door will also be a hub for local sneaker culture, art, music and sports.
