Come Friday, Balmain will launch a three-piece Balmain x Beyoncé collection at its Paris flagship. The following day, all items will be made available on Balmain.com and Beyoncé.com, with all proceeds going to the United Negro College Fund.
The collection was inspired by Queen Bey’s Coachella (dubbed Beychella by fans) performance looks courtesy of the French luxury fashion house’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing. The outfits were made to resemble marching band uniforms of America’s historically black colleges and universities.
“When she saw all the dancers loving the outfit — and she was loving her own outfit — she realized that what we were creating on stage for her, for all the dancers, was something really impactful,” the designer shared with Vogue.
“This is something important, and this collaboration is talking to the new generation and saying you can get that piece, you can be a part of the history,” said Rousteing.
Items from the collab include the yellow and pink sweatshirts Beyoncé wore on stage at Coachella as well as a black tee with the same sorority-influenced emblem. The sweatshirts will retail between $550 and $1,790, while the T-shirt is priced at $290.
