Canali focused its spring ’17 collection on updated classics. Like its luxury counterparts Berluti or Salvatore Ferragamo, there were attempts at infusing a youthful attitude in the line, though that mandate barely scratched the surface.
Monk strap dress shoes were updated in tri-tone colorways. Certain leather lace-ups also had sneaker soles, a style we’re increasingly seeing in the market.
Loafers came in both penny and tassel versions. Much of the colors read on the darker side, which helped ground the lighter color palette and lightweight constructions in the clothes.
While the styling was indeed forward-looking – ascots were tied like chokers, how Tumblr of you, Canali – the pieces themselves erred a little too heavily on the safe side.
