September in New York means New York Fashion Week, but that doesn’t always mean it’s time to break out fall footwear.
Outside the spring ’17 runway shows of Tanya Taylor, Cushnie et Ochs and Jason Wu, Footwear News spotted plenty of statement sandals with eye-catching details such as tassels, pearls, fur and star-shaped appliqués. Highlights include Miu Miu’s pearl-embellished slides, Proenza Schouler’s white mules adorned with rows of silver balls and Brother Vellies pink fur slides. And in what comes as no surprise, we also saw two of Gucci’s ultra-popular silhouettes: the slide and mule sandal.
Despite the sweltering temperatures in New York, some brave souls broke out boots. But make no mistake, suede boots were not yet out to play. A few show-goers donned boots made with clear PVC, proving the trend — shepherded by Kanye West and his collection of clear Yeezy boots and sandals — is still in play. We saw styles by brands Dolls Kill and Public Desire.
Of course, with some running all across the city from show to show, sneakers continue to be a popular choice, with showings from Nike, Converse and Stella McCartney.
