Women In Power: Dansko’s Mandy Cabot Shares Her Tips For Building A Successful Shoe Career

Dansko CEO Mandy Cabot, who co-founded the iconic clog brand more than two decades ago, has found that the key to career success begins with finding what inspires you, practicing patience and sharing responsibility.

Here, Cabot offers her three best advice tips:

“Get to know your why: What drives you, what inspires you? For me, it was the desire to be loved [from my name Amanda, Latin for ‘worthy of love’]. My personal mandate was to make people happy and earn their love. This became the basis for Dansko’s mission, to be our stakeholders’ favorite shoe company. Whatever it is that drives you, whatever it is that’s in your DNA, that’s your renewable power source. Use it.”

“Don’t think you have to do everything yourself. Find really good people [whom] you trust and who share your vision and invite them on your journey. Are you a big-idea person or a get-it-done person? Few can do both. Figure out which type you are, then work with people who complement you.”

“Don’t expect to get everything right from the start. To be successful, you have to be brave enough to act — to launch into new projects and activities, to interact with different kinds of people and experiment with new ways of getting things done. Action not only changes who we are, but also changes what we believe is worth doing.”
