The company, which practices the one-for-one concept (buy a pair of shoes, they give a pair of shoes to a child in need), has debuted a special scarf inspired by the activist for women’s and girls’ equality and education. Profits from sales of the scarf will go directly to fund Yousafzai’s girls’ education nonprofit, the Malala Fund.
Yousafzai, who is still only 18 years old, has become a major force in the drive for education for girls. In 2013, she survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban in Pakistan for going to school and being an outspoken activist for girls’ education. The attack received international attention and helped thrust the young activist into the global spotlight.
Today, the Malala Fund helps to support a full 12 years of education for girls around the world.
The scarf features one of Malala’s most famous quotes: “One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world.” The scarf is available online and at Toms stores in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago and Portland for $48.
