Skechers USA Inc. continues to roll out the big-name partnerships.
The Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based shoe company has teamed up with Major League Baseball Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith for a new marketing campaign featuring the brand’s Relaxed Fit from Skechers footwear collection.
The campaign kicked off Sunday with a television spot that aired during MLB’s season-opening broadcasts and will extend through December 2016, the company said.
“I’m excited to be working with Skechers on this campaign because they make some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn,” Smith said in a release. “I’ve been a fan of the brand for years, and I love how Skechers’ memory foam feels so relaxing on my feet.”
The baseball great, who set major league records for career assists and double plays by a shortstop, will join a growing list of famous Skechers endorsers, including former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, all-time MLB hits leader Pete Rose, boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and pop star Meghan Trainor.
“Baseball fans recognize Ozzie as the best defensive shortstop of all time, so we’re thrilled to have him join the Skechers team,” Skechers president Michael Greenberg said of the brand’s latest partnership. “Ozzie’s impressive accomplishments and notoriety make him the perfect champion to follow in the footsteps of baseball legends Mariano Rivera and Pete Rose in representing the Skechers men’s collections.”
Previous Skechers men’s campaigns have featured NFL greats Joe Montana and Joe Namath, as well as Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
