It’s been four years since American-made outfitter Ball and Buck first collaborated with New Balance, and now the two Boston mainstays are getting back together for yet another sporting-inspired sneaker.
This time around, Ball and Buck helps celebrate the 20th anniversary of the New Balance 580 by bringing back its successor, the New Balance 585.
Fittingly, this collaboration is made in America — or more specifically, at New Balance’s Skowhegan, Maine, factory. The “Sporting Gentleman” 585 uses Ball and Buck’s signature plaid and a mix of fall-friendly olive nubuck and brown leather.
“Our work with Ball and Buck brings two Boston-based brands together that strive to offer consumers premium, authentic, Made in USA products. We are excited to bring back the 585 silhouette and collaborate on this prestige model with a retailer who influences, inspires and understands quality American craftsmanship, as well as the outdoor lifestyle,” said New Balance lifestyle strategic business manager Chris Davis.
Ball and Buck founder-president Mark Bollman spoke about being the first store to work on the 585 model. “We were honored when New Balance approached us to work on their first-ever collaboration on the 585 silhouette. Being two brands cut from the same cloth and built upon the same values, we are always impressed with how functional, beautiful and high quality our collaborations come out,” Bollman said.
The Ball and Buck x New Balance 585 “Sporting Gentleman” retails for $238 and will launch exclusively from Ball and Buck in store (144-B Newbury St., Boston) and online on Aug. 27. After that, a global release will take place on Sept. 17.
