Britain’s Queen Elizabeth celebrates her 90th birthday on Thursday. To mark the occasion, she and her three male heirs proudly posed for a series of historic portraits that will be featured on a new collection of commemorative postage stamps to be released by the Royal Mail.
Once again, little Prince George stole the show. Dressed in a smart Rachel Riley shirt-and-shorts set, knee socks and his trusty Start-rite Jo T-bar shoes, 2-year-old George happily grinned for the camera, alongside father William, grandfather Charles and great-grandmother Elizabeth — or Gan-Gan, as George affectionately calls her. It’s the very same head-to-toe outfit the young prince wore for the first official portraits taken of him and his baby sister, Princess Charlotte, following her birth last spring.
In an outtake of the 90th birthday photo released by Buckingham Palace, George can be seen perched on top of a stack of foam blocks while holding his dad’s hand to steady himself, in order to raise him to the right height.
Captured by photographer Ranald Mackechnie, the four-generation family portrait will appear as a stamp sheet, with perforations positioned to create a first class stamp for each of the royals. Royal Mail also is releasing another six commemorative stamps for the Queen’s birthday, featuring photographs chronicling her life from childhood to present.
This isn’t the first time George has worn Start-rite. The two-year-old wore the same pair in the family’s 2015 Christmas photo and in his first official portraits. Last year the toddler wore Crocs to play with mom Kate Middleton at a polo match. For the family’s ski trip in March, George’s little sister Charlotte wore pink Emu boots.
