How One Japanese Shoe Brand Is Capitalizing on the ‘Pokémon Go!’ Craze

It didn’t take long for the “Pokémon Go!” craze to make its way to the shoe world.

Japanese fashion retailer Esperanza has created an adorable capsule of women’s shoes inspired by everybody’s favorite Pokémon character, Pikachu. The assortment includes three ballet flats and a towering pair of yellow platform pumps.

The flats, perfect for hitting the streets to chase down a few creatures, feature simple rubber soles. There are two yellow styles, one adorned with 3-D Pikachu ears and tail, and the other decorated with an all-over novelty print. The third flat design features a red Pokéball print with Pikachu faces on the toe. For an edgier look, the Mary Jane-style pumps are detailed with 3-D ears on the toe and a dangling lightning-shaped tail on the heel.

Each pair in the collection comes packaged in a special Pokémon box. Priced from about $93 to $123, the shoes are available for preorder now on Esperanza’s e-commerce site, Esp-shoe.com. Later this month, they will be on the shelves at most of Esperanza’s brick-and-mortar store locations throughout Japan, including the brand’s flagship in Tokyo’s Shibuya 109 building, where a Pikachu photo booth will be installed for a limited time.

So go out and get them. Because you never know: Maybe they’ll bring a little luck to your game.
