The doctor is in at J.Crew.
Dr. Scholl’s iconic Original Sandal, introduced to a new generation of fashionistas by the Carrie Bradshaw character on HBO’s “Sex and the City,” is launching a limited-edition series of styles with the retailer. The four-pattern collection includes a playful Americana-inspired gingham print, modern white-on-white version, preppy plaid and sexy silver glitter style. The uppers will complement J.Crew’s spring apparel offering.
The Original Sandal was introduced by inventor and entrepreneur Dr. William Scholl, who designed a simple wood version that was inspired by a vintage clog he discovered on his travels through Europe. The style got its first fashion nod by celebrities in the ’60s when the likes of British models Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy embraced the look.
The sandals are available at J.Crew stores and online and retail for $98 for the plaid, white tonal and plaid versions. The silver glitter sells for $108.
The Dr. Scholl’s Original Sandal joins a roster of iconic fashion-comfort styles that continues to resonate with consumers of all ages. The list includes Birkenstock’s Arizona style, the Dansko clog and Clarks’ Wallabee and Desert boot. It’s all about investment dressing in modern terms — taking what’s old and making it new again and again.
