Standout Floral Shoes To Celebrate National Garden Month

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has named April as National Garden Month. But if picking up a hoe and stepping into a pair of garden clogs isn’t your idea of celebrating, footwear designers are offering a range of more fashionable alternatives.

Floral prints are one of the hottest trends in footwear this spring, as seen on casual espadrilles, canvas sneakers and retro-inspired platform sandals from designer labels such as Dolce & Gabbana abloom in fresh floral designs.

These botanical footnotes are also among the most versatile accessories this season, tapping into a broad color palette inspired by none other than Mother Nature.  And while some designers have taken the theme literally by replicating actual flower motifs, others have come up with their own whimsical florals.

With wedding season approaching, floral-inspired shoes are the perfect choice for a garden setting. But remember, platforms are a safer bet in the outdoors since stilettos can sink into soggy ground.

There are some fashion guidelines, however, when it comes to these perennial looks. They should always be the center of attention — footnoting a simple color-blocked or monochromatic look above the ankle.
