Luxury retailer Elaine Kim is growing her footprint.
The designer’s eponymous boutique at 8373 W. 3rd St. in Los Angeles celebrated an expansion on Tuesday that has quadrupled the shop’s size.
The multiband concept store carries her private label of apparel and footwear, in addition to sleepwear, handbags, gifts and home décor.
Kim’s new space occupies the former Traveler’s Bookstore next door, now featuring an outdoor patio in the back and more sidewalk-lined window space to showcase her namesake shoe range, which was launched last fall.
“Setting up the shoe boutique with the storefront show window was important to me — I wanted my clients and the fashion community to know that I was totally committed to creating a footwear line,” Kim explained to Footwear News. “I look forward to exploring my own ideas, as well as to showcasing in the new space other talented, like-minded shoe designers.”
The store offers curated footwear from Booshba, Cor by Calleen Cordero and Gray Matters that complement its apparel collection, which is also available on the boutique’s website.
Along with the space expansion, Kim said she aims to broaden her own shoe line, too.
“Since the very beginning, I wanted to have my own shoe designs to complete the collection looks,” she said. “But I soon found out it’s not just having the customers ready to buy, it’s also a matter of recruiting the factories and the artisans ready to partner with you to execute your vision. Little by little, I am meeting those great companies, and it is exciting to be forging those relationships both here locally and abroad in Europe.”
Kim launched her line of day-to-evening separates, dresses and outerwear in 2008.
