With Mother’s Day just around the corner, Josefinas has partnered with global humanitarian organization CARE to help ensure more young girls in Africa have access to education. To raise money and awareness, the Portuguese luxury footwear brand has released a special-edition capsule collection of matching mother-daughter ballet flats.
“Investing in the future of a girl is the best investment you can make to combat poverty,” said Maria Cunha, CEO of Josefinas. “Thousands of families cannot support the costs of education, leaving thousands of girls without education and a future.”
Available exclusively online at Josefinas.com, the Mother & Daughter collection includes two different matched sets, each packaged in a handmade gift box. The Sweet, Sweet Love set, priced at about $1,200, features red suede flats, decorated with a small teddy bear ornament handmade by a Portuguese master jeweler using silver and a real pearl. CARE will use the proceeds raised from the sale of the set to build a new school for girls in Africa.
The Tenderness Blue set, priced at about $540, features blue suede flats, detailed with an engraved teddy bear medallion. Proceeds from the sale of this set will go to fund new school uniforms and books.
“Mothers want the best for their daughters. I’m a mother, and it brings tears to my eyes knowing that so many women are forced to deny education to their daughters,” said Filipa Júlio, Josefinas’ founder and creative director. “We want the Mother & Daughter editions to celebrate the bonding love between the two, but also help girls in need.”
Since its 2013 launch, Josefinas has made helping women and girls a key focus. Last year, the brand debuted a Women for Women collection, featuring a special edition designed with women’s rights activist Gloria Steinem. Sales of the collection benefited Women for Women International, a nonprofit that provides support, tools and access to life-changing skills to help women transition from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency.
