Villa’s Collab With Wale & Saucony Shelved Over Legal Dispute

Rap star Wale’s collaboration with renowned athletic brand Saucony and lifestyle retailer Villa has been canceled.

Villa announced today in an email statement that the collaboration has been shelved due to a legal dispute with the University of Pennsylvania over the similarity of a logo used on the shoe and the school’s “P” logo. The shoe boasts a red, white and blue “S” on the tongue.

The shoe featured a red, white and blue color palette with gold Saucony branding on the upper and a classic gum sole.

Although this Saucony collab has been terminated, not all hope is lost for Wale and Saucony fans. The retailer did confirm that even though this shoe isn’t hitting retail shelves, another project with Wale would drop this summer.

Wale, the rap star signed to Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group imprint, is a frequent Villa collaborator. The veteran emcee has been attached to footwear releases with the retailer including the tide pool blue Timberland Gift Box six-inch boot that was sold exclusively at Villa in November, as well as the Independence Day-themed Asics “Bottle Rocket” Gel Lyte III that was released in June.
