Designer Tim Coppens Appointed Creative Director For New Under Armour Sportswear Line

Designer Tim Coppens is adding a new line to his resumé: executive creative director for Under Armour Sportswear.

The Belgium native is nominated this year for Menswear Designer of the Year at the CFDA awards for his namesake line, which he started in New York in 2011. He’s also won the CFDA Swarovski Award for Menswear in 2014 and was nominated for the LVMH Prize.

Baltimore-based Under Armour has tapped Coppens to be the executive creative director for its new Under Armour Sportswear line, which the brand describes as “fashion-driven performance sportswear.” The collection will include apparel, footwear and accessories beginning for fall 2016.

“There is a desire for something new — a new twist on an American sportswear brand that allows the ambitious generation to go longer, faster and harder with intuitive product and a modern style,” said Coppens.

Ben Pruess, Under Armour’s senior vice president of sportswear, said that Coppens was chosen based on his experience working with both performance brands and high-fashion labels. Before starting his line, Coppens headed up the sports-performance design groups at Ralph Lauren and Adidas.

“His understanding of both worlds and ability to craft a creative expression to capture this is truly remarkable,” said Pruess.

The collection will be available on UASportswear.com, select fashion retailers and Under Armour Brand Houses in Chicago and New York.
