Matt Kuchar has won golf’s first bronze medal in 112 years after the sport returned to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Skechers-sponsored pro finished third at the men’s golf event on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, behind Sweden’s silver medalist Henrik Stevson and Britain’s gold medalist Justin Rose.
Kuchar wore customized Skechers’ Go Golf Pro shoes in the black colorway.
The leather footwear features technical waterproofing with a Softspikes sole, which improves stability, and Resalyte shock-absorbing midsole; retailing for $140 online.
When Kuchar went to accept his medal on the podium, he switched his cleats for a pair of neon green Nikes.
“I’ve never been so happy with a third-place finish in my life,” Kuchar told reporters. “I can’t explain to you the pride that I feel now, just busting out of my chest.”
Kuchar joined Team USA golf after Jordan Spieth dropped out of the competition, citing health concerns.
Spieth echoed a number of golf stars who opted out of the Olympics, among them Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy.
