The French sneaker brand Piola launched its spring collection today at the New York-based retailer Extra Butter.
The sneakers, made in Portugal, utilize premium materials such as Italian Nappa leather, organic cotton from Southern Peru and wild rubber from the Amazon rainforest. Piola works in Peru with 33 wild rubber producers and 55 producers of organic Tanguïs cotton.
What’s unique about this new brand is that Piola has created a development platform to connect its consumers directly with the workers in Peruvian production shops. Every pair has a $4 donation built into the purchase price that can go toward the development project of one’s choosing, such as financing the construction of rubber workshops in the Amazon rainforest.
Every shoebox contains a ticket with a unique password to the brand’s website that allows the customer to donate.
Details of the sneakers include minimalistic lines and a specific outsole, which is notched with an inlaying of hand-painted wood, leather and Peruvian wild rubber.
Select styles from the Piola spring ’16 collection are available in store at Extra Butter’s Lower East Side location and online at shop.extrabutterny.com. Price points range from $180 to $275.
