Pensole Footwear Design Academy is launching its biggest project to date — an unscripted shoe design competition that will be filmed in eight episodes. While the company has not revealed just where the episodes can be seen, the international event will take beginning in February.
Pensole, based in Portland, Ore., was founded in 2010 by footwear designer D’Wayne Edwards as a means of giving young design students, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds, a chance to learn from professionals in the shoe industry through a curriculum that includes design, marketing and branding.
The upcoming project will include participants who enter through an international casting call. Their goal is to design original sneakers for a prize of being launched and sold at one of the largest global footwear retailers. In addition, they will have the chance to create custom-made sneakers for major celebrities. Each episode will cover an entire weeklong class, at the end of which the finished shoe will be judged by a panel of celebrities and footwear designers.
“For this design competition, we are looking for hardworking, highly competitive and highly skilled aspiring footwear designers with raw talent and fun, outgoing personalities,” said Edwards.
The series will be produced through a partnership that also includes 10×10 Entertainment and Largardére Sports, a French sports and entertainment marketing company. All episodes will be filmed at Pensole. Online registration is available.
Those accepted to the program will be eligible for scholarships that include airfare, housing and tuition.
