Portland, Ore., just took the lead for coolest public bike-share program.
The city teamed up with Nike on a new bike share inspired by classic sneakers from the brand. Nike’s worldwide headquarters are in nearby Beaverton, Ore.
The Biketown program (a pun on the “Niketown” stores) will launch on Tuesday. Ten percent of all bikes will be decked out in styles reflecting the Nike Air Max 95, Nike Air Trainer 1 and Nike Air Safari.
Nike is the lead sponsor of the initiative, funding $10 million over the next five years to expand the program to 1,000 bikes.
