New York Yankees legend Mariano Rivera is taking aim at the footwear business. The five-time World Series champion has signed on as brand ambassador for Amherst, Mass.-based OrthoLite, a provider of comfort and performance insoles.
Rivera will not just be a face of the brand. He will be actively involved in collaborating with the company on a range of initiatives that include supporting the Mariano Rivera Foundation.
‘Throughout my pitching career, I’ve experienced first-hand the importance of having proper footwear to perform at my best during training and during a game and on the mound,” said Rivera, noting the added benefit of wearing the right insoles.
The collaboration follows the announcement earlier this year that OrthoLite was named the official insole of the New York Yankees. The initiative is designed to connect with consumers and fans in stadiums, on TV and through joint promotional efforts during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
“Mo has a special place in the hearts of baseball fans worldwide, and we are thrilled to work with him and support his inspiring Mariano Rivera Foundation,” said Glenn Barrett, OrthoLite CEO. “His commitment to performance on the field and beyond makes him the perfect fit to serve as our new brand ambassador for athletes and fans alike.”
It’s possible Rivera might add a pair of OrthoLite insoles to his Steve Madden shoes. This summer, FN caught up with him at the designer’s New York showroom, where he was selecting a new footwear wardrobe. While he doesn’t consider himself a shoe aficionado, Rivera said he prefers dressier styles when making personal appearances.
