Boston-based New Balance is taking inspiration from its home city for an upcoming release. With the Boston Marathon just around the corner on April 18, the brand is offering two limited-edition Fresh Foam styles inspired by the city’s collegiate tradition and love for running.
The Fresh Foam 1080 Boston has a cushioned underfoot feel and offers a neutral ride, while the Fresh Foam Zante v2 Boston has the smooth ride that has made the silhouette popular among runners.
The crimson, gray and navy colorways are a tribute to Boston, while the chevron design on the sock liners points forward to motivate runners to continue despite the cold winter. The words “Run Boston” can be found on the shoelaces.
The Fresh Foam 1080 Boston retails for $165, and the Fresh Foam Zante v2 retails for $115. Both drop Friday at select Boston area retailers, including Marathon Sports, and at the pre-marathon John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo. The shoes will also be available at New Balance stores in Boston.
Ahead of the 2015 Boston Marathon, New Balance released a Fresh Foam Zante running shoe that had the words “Run Fastah” on the soles— a nod to the Boston accent — and the insole had an image of the city’s skyline.
