Following Kobe Bryant’s retirement from basketball, more major news is coming from the Nike-sponsored athlete. The former Los Angeles Laker announced on Tuesday night that his wife is expecting the family’s third baby girl. The basketball star took to Instagram to share the news by posting a photo of infant-sized Nike Kobe 11s in red and black and a onesie titled “Baby Mamba.”
Seems like Bryant’s soon-to-be born daughter will take after her father by rocking a pair of his final on-court sneakers — in a crib. The baby shoes, created to look like Bryant’s Achilles Heel colorway, look to be a special gift to the former Los Angeles Laker from Nike. (The shoes are not available for infants on the Nike website.)
Bryant’s 11th signature sneaker with Nike launched in January and featured Flyknit technology that included thermoplastic polyurethane yarn for superior strength, making it the first Nike shoe to feature the new iteration of Flyknit.
Bryant will make an appearance on Thursday as a keynote speaker for Variety and Sports Illustrated‘s inaugural Sports Entertainment Industry Summit in Los Angeles.
That same day, Bryant will receive the Legend Award at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports Awards, which the network will air Sunday at 8 p.m. ET and PT. He will be honored in recognition of being a five-time NBA champion, four-time NBA Finals MVP and two-time Olympic gold medalist, along with his sportsmanship on and off the basketball court.
