Gennady Golovkin — known in the boxing community as Triple-G — has made a name for himself for regularly knocking out his opponents. His reputation has earned him a spot with the Jordan Brand family.
The label announced late Tuesday that it has signed Golovkin, bolstering its already stacked roster of sponsored athletes that includes NBA superstars Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, among others. The Kazakhstani boxer isn’t the only fighter signed to Jordan Brand; its lineup also includes the undefeated Andre Ward and boxing legend Roy Jones Jr.
“We are excited to add Gennady to the Jordan Brand family. Gennady’s work ethic, dedication to his craft and style make him a perfect fit,” said Larry Miller, president of Jordan Brand, in a statement.
Golovkin — the unified WBA, IBF, IBO and WBC middleweight champion — has a record of 34-0, with 31 knockouts. The 34-year-old ring general is scheduled to face mandatory IBF challenger Dominic Wade on April 23 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Wade will enter the ring with an 18-0 record, with 12 wins coming by way of knockout.
Jordan Brand confirmed Golovkin would work with the label to help develop the category.
Fellow Jordan Brand athlete Ward won his last fight after a lengthy hiatus from the ring, defeating Sullivan Barrera at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., on March 26 by unanimous decision.
