Before J.J. Watt steps on the field for the Houston Texans this season to pulverize quarterbacks and disrupt opposing offenses, he will have his first signature shoe with Reebok on retail shelves.
The athletic label and the NFL star announced Thursday the release of the JJ I, a training shoe, which arrives on July 15. The shoe will be sold via reebok.com, at Academy stores and other select retailers for $99.
“I’ve trained in many different shoes throughout my career, but there was never one that I felt was clearly the best shoe to get the job done,” Watt said in a statement. “So I decided to build one, and with the help of some great designers, I am proud to say that we have created the best training shoe I’ve ever worn. We spent over a year making sure that this shoe would perform at the highest level on any surface for any activity.”
The shoe boasts a new technology from the brand, Reebok Liquid Foam, which provides rapid reaction with every impact, according to the brand. It also features a raised topline midsole to keep the foot locked in, an outsole with multidirectional traction to provide the strong and dynamic grip required for agility workouts, FlexCage technology in the midfoot for a greater locked-down feel, and a second cage integrated into the toe for protection during jumping and pushing exercises.
“We partnered with J.J. because he represents everything we believe here at Reebok; he is the true embodiment of Be More Human,” David Oksman, head of U.S. marketing for Reebok, said in a statement. “He is constantly pushing his limits and overcoming obstacles to become the best version of himself through training and commitment. The JJ is really the embodiment of that partnership. We’ve built this shoe with J.J. to provide a tool for those to hunt their own greatness.”
