Jimmy Fallon and The Roots are great at entertaining the masses with comedic sketches, celebrity interviews and music. But they aren’t very talented when it comes to basketball.
The crew of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” challenged the famed exhibition basketball team the Harlem Globetrotters to a game, and the matchup aired on the show last night. The results weren’t pretty.
Fallon and The Roots, all sporting the Adidas Light ‘Em Up 2.0 basketball sneakers, put up a mere two points against the team of skilled ballers. The Globetrotters, wearing the Adidas D Rose 773, fared far better, posting 90 points against the basketball misfits. But the outcome of the game wasn’t a surprise — and it didn’t matter. The Globetrotters’ antics are always entertaining, and watching Fallon and The Roots as the team’s helpless victims was priceless.
Although Fallon, The Roots and the Globetrotters hit the hardwood with some heat on their feet, this is far from the first stellar sneaker moment on the show. In January, comedian and fitness enthusiast Kevin Hart stopped by and jumped onto Fallon’s desk to display his signature shoe with Nike, the Hustle Hart. He showed off two colorways of the shoe: red with gold accents and a white sole, and blue with gold accents and a white sole.
