DZR Collaborates With Artists On New Line Of Cycling Sneakers

As climate change continues to be a prominent environmental concern, trading in cars for bicycles is gaining momentum nationwide.

New York’s popular bike-sharing system, known as Citi Bike, was designed to provide New Yorkers and visitors with another option for getting around town. Due to demand, more and more cities across the country are now offering their own bike-share programs. And to make all that pedaling easier, San Francisco-based DZR has collaborated with three artists to release a collection of street-cycling sneakers. The company, whose shoes include urban-inspired looks and the more performance-driven Dirt styles, has launched its new unisex Shift line, retailing for $79.

The Shift collection is an extension of DZR’s original clip-less styles and include a stiffened midsole for power transfer while pedaling, a counter-griped gum rubber outsole for grip on a range of surfaces and a strategically placed directional tread. Additional features include custom chain-link eyelets and hand-stitching on the heel cup, a reflective heel badge, ventilation ports and a low-profile design that fits seamlessly into toe straps.

Inside each of the collection’s three styles is exclusive art work by Japanese female tattoo artist Wakako; Phil Guy, whose art can be found on skate decks, motorcycles and T-shirts; and D Young V, a San Francisco multimedia street artist.
