Damian Lillard and Adidas are once again paying homage to the Portland Trail Blazers star’s hometown of Oakland, Calif. The Adidas D Lillard 2 Fool’s Gold is a nod to those who traveled west during the California Gold Rush in the mid-1800s — and particularly those who were persistent in building up the Bay Area, wanting more than just to get rich quick.
The upper is done in a flashy gold foil with specks of gold on the laces, tongue and splattered midsole. The iced green laces, outsole and Damian Lillard branding on the heel complement the black-and-gold palette.
On his Instagram, Lillard captioned a photo of the shoes, “Short term success without digging in and continuing to put in real work is FOOLS GOLD. This colorway reminds me to keep working as hard as I can.”

Another one… The new #FoolsGold colorway of my #DLillard2 drops for #AprilFools on Friday. Short term success without digging in and continuing to put in real work is FOOLS GOLD. This colorway reminds me to keep working as hard as I can. Let me know what y'all think of the new colorway. #teamadidas #NeverDoubt
The shoes retail for $105 and will be available April 1 at Adidas.com and select retailers.
The D Lillard releases have been highly personal. The D Lillard 1 Oaklandish — a collaboration with the store of the same name — paid tribute to his hometown, as did the D Lillard 2, which included nods to his neighborhood of Brookfield and his grandmother, nicknamed Suga Gee.
As for his basketball home of Portland, the D Lillard 1 Forestry Edition honored Portland’s forestry heritage, and the D Lillard 1 PDX Carpet was adorned with the iconic brightly colored carpets in the city’s airport.
With seven games left in the regular season, Lillard and the Blazers are looking to clinch one of the eight spots in the Western Conference playoffs. They currently hold the sixth spot.
