“Mama said knock you out” – and the Chicago Cubs did just that as they defeated the Washington Nationals on Mother’s Day wearing pink sneakers.
Chicago’s Javier Baez ushered the team to victory as he scored his first career walk-off home run on Sunday in the 13th inning, giving his team a 4-3 win.

And he earned the highlight wearing hot pink Nike cleats on his home turf at Wrigley Field.
Baez and other players paid tribute to mothers by wearing pink sneakers and hats, and playing with pink bats.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Can’t thank my mom enough for everything she has done for me, blessed to have her as my mom!

Cubs’ Kris Bryan wrote a heartwarming message to mothers on Twitter. “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Can’t thank my mom enough for everything she has done for me, blessed to have her as my mom!”
His teammate Jason Heyward donned hot pink Nikes that had a light pink Swoosh logo.

Catcher David Ross’ New Balance kicks featured hot pink colorways, and pitcher Jon Lester had white Nikes with pink accents. Both players noted on Twitter that the touch of pink also raised awareness for Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness.
“Gamers! #mamasaidknockyouout #save2B #susangkomen #mothersday #NVRQT #LetsGo” Lester tweeted.

The Nationals’ Bryce Harper had on the same Under Armour sneakers, but wasn’t tickled pink after the defeat.
The 2015 National League Most Valuable Player was hardly given a chance to hit a ball. He was walked six times during the game, and 13 times overall out of his 18 times at the plate in the four-game series against the Cubs.
