Converse reintroduced its running heritage in July with the unveiling of the Auckland Modern. The Boston-based label is doubling down on modernizing its running past with its upcoming Thunderbolt Modern release.
Priced at $130, the Converse Thunderbolt Modern arrives Friday at Converse retail stores, converse.com and at select retail partners. The first drop boasts six colorways, with some inspired by countries such as the U.S. and Brazil, while others have more traditional hues.
“As one of the first pan-athletic brands, the relationship between Converse and running goes back to the 1900s,” said Bryan Cioffi, VP and creative director of Converse Global Footwear. “The Converse Thunderbolt Modern is a throwback to that heritage, modernized with new Nike materials to give us a glimpse at the beginning of what’s next.”
Aside from Hyperfuse, the shoe features a one-piece jacquard upper for a dynamic fit, as well as a Phylon outsole with flex grooves for comfort and mobility.
The shoe will debut in pure platinum and photo blue, gold dart and pine green, team red and ivory, gorge green and ivory, binary blue and ivory, and white and black.
