Chinese New Year offerings from brands are among the favorite annual themed releases of sneakerheads. From Nike to Adidas, Converse and more, the athletic industry’s finest release some of the hottest silhouettes of the year during this time.
Today marks the first day of the Chinese New Year, the start of the Year of the Monkey. Jordan Brand and Adidas unveiled its shoes for the occasion last month, featuring past and current celebrated basketball and lifestyle silhouettes. Jordan Brand opted to reimagine both a classic model and a new performance shoe, the Air Jordan 5 retro and the Jordan Super.Fly 4 PO. Adidas released a three-shoe Tubular collection featuring the Tubular Runner, the Tubular X and the Tubular Doom, as well as a two-shoe pack of new basketball shoes – the D Rose 6 and the D Lillard 2.
In recent years, athletic brands have dressed its renowned silhouettes with premium materials, decorative prints, and bold color palettes to illustrate the year, from the Year of the Dragon in 2012 to the Year of the Snake in 2013, the Year of the Horse in 2014, and the Year of the Goat in 2015.
