Curse Broken: The Cleats That Ended the Chicago Cubs’ 108-Year World Series Title Drought

The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians gave baseball fans a memorable 2016 World Series, capped off with an electrifying Game 7 that went into extra innings. When the game was over, it was the lovable-loser Cubs celebrating on Cleveland’s home field, ending the franchise’s 108-year streak without a World Series title.

After taking Game 7 by a score of 8-7, the stars of the diamond — Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Ben Zobrist and the rest of the Chicago squad — will return home as World Series winners when they head back to Chi-Town.

Before the confetti falls in Chicago at the team’s parade on Friday and the Cubs fans party throughout the city, Footwear News takes a look at the Game 7 moments and the cleats — including looks from Under Armour, Adidas, Nike and New Balance — that got them to the promised land.

Zobrist’s 10th-Inning RBI Single

With the game tied in the 10th inning, Zobrist hit a double, driving in Albert Almora Jr. This gave Chicago a 7-6 lead.
