Ken Griffey Jr. was honored in a special way as he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Major League players donned the 1997 A.L. MVP’s Nike Swingman Legend cleats at baseball games on Sunday while he was feted at the ceremony in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The stylish shoes are designed in white with gold treatments around the outsole, tongue, and on the Nike “Swoosh” and “Swingman” logos. The sneakers include “Swingman Legend” on the tongue and a strap across the laces.
Some of the players who wore the shoes include New York Yankees Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira, Los Angeles Angels Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, Baltimore Orioles star Adam Jones and Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward.
“I stand up here humbled and overwhelmed,” Griffey said at the ceremony. “I can’t describe how it feels.”
The lefty ended his speech by turning his baseball cap backward.
Longtime New York Mets star Mike Piazza was also inducted at the ceremony.
