Asics has partnered with a Japanese textile company to develop a new color-changing mesh.
Known as Chameleoid Mesh, the new fabric, which was unveiled today, is equipped with technology that changes colors depending on the angle from which it’s viewed.

Asics has already released the first sneaker to feature Chameleoid Mesh: the Gel-Quantam 360 CM running shoe. Asics also plans to use the color-shifting fabric across the Asics Tiger lifestyle range.

Chameleoid Mesh is the product of a collaboration between the Asics Institute of Sports Science and Toray Industries’ Advanced Textiles Development Center. Along with its color-changing properties, Chameleoid Mesh is more flexible and thus more accommodating to the foot’s movement.
“We are happy to have developed a new textile with colors that change depending on the angle of viewing, and that we can offer this product to our customers,” said Asics Institute of Sports Science footwear-development team manager Kenta Moriyasu.

The Asics Gel-Quantam 360 CM is available now from asics.com for $170.
