Asics Athlete Monica Puig Wins Puerto Rico’s First Gold Medal After Tennis Victory At Rio Olympic Games

Tennis star Monica Puig made history after defeating Germany’s Angelique Kerber on Saturday, winning Puerto Rico’s first Olympic gold medal.

The 22-year-old athlete triumphed 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in women’s singles tennis at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Asics-sponsored ace wore the brand’s GEL-Solution Speed 3 shoes, which feature a high-performance upper design and two layers of memory foam that line the collar, creating a personalized fit.

Through its gel cushioning system, the tennis shoes attenuate shock during impact.

Taking to Instagram, Puig said she was “still in shock” after winning the title during her first time at the Olympic Games.

“Oh what a time… To be alive!!!! Im still in shock! Thanks for all the beautiful messages! I love you all!!!” she wrote.
