Last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year, Andrew Wiggins, may not have his own signature shoe with Adidas yet, but the player’s edition releases continue to turn heads as soon as they hit retail shelves. Today, the Germany-based athletic brand unveiled three colorways of the Crazylight Boost 2.5 for the rising superstar that will hit stores today and in February.
The styles are inspired by Wiggins’ family history and his play on the court for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Marita colorway is in stores now and the North Star and Home Away From Home iterations arrives to retail in February. The shoes all retail for $125.
The Marita edition – the first shoe dedicated to Wiggins’ mother, Marita Payne-Wiggins – is inspired by her success at the Olympics, helping Canada win two silver medals in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400-meter relays in the 1984 Summer Games. The shoe boasts a silver-to-red gradient Primeknit and mesh upper, silver accents on the shoe’s midsole, heel, collar lining and laces, and a red and white outsole. It also features gold hits to the upper’s foil-treated seam and the “AW” branding on the tongue.
The North Star colorway is a nod to Minnesota’s state motto, L’Etoile du Nord (The Star of the North). The shoe utilizes the Timberwolves’ colors of blue, black and white, and features a metallic heel counter and silver detailing.
The Home Away From Home iteration, a tribute to Wiggins’ journey from Canada to the NBA, features maple leaves from the midsole to its clear outsole, using green and blue accents to pay homage to Wiggins’ Canadian roots and career in Minnesota. The shoe uses a color palette of white, gray and blue for its upper, with white and gray mesh taking up the top half with blue Primeknit talking up the bottom portion.
