Rising NBA star Andrew Wiggins won the 2015 NBA Rookie of the Year and the 2015 NBA Rising Stars Challenge MVP awards while wearing selections from Adidas’ Crazylight performance basketball franchise. But this season, the young leader of the Minnesota Timberwolves will wear a new three-stripes shoe on the court, the Crazy Explosive.
But that’s not his only favorite Adidas shoe. Here, the baller discussed off-court looks and his new court-ready shoe with Footwear News.
You’re in a sport that has long been dominated by Nike. What makes Adidas special, and what do you think the brand could accomplish in basketball?
Adidas has been big time the past couple of years, stepping it up in every category, every sport. I just see us getting bigger as a whole organization, a whole group. They keep adding players and pieces [that are] going to make Adidas huge in general. I feel like one of the biggest factors is Kanye [West] — Kanye is such an influential guy worldwide, he’s one of the most known names in the world and brings nothing but positive vibes to Adidas.

What’s different about the Crazy Explosive from the shoe you wore last season, the Crazylight Boost 2.5?
This isn’t low cut or mid cut, obviously it’s a high cut. It feel different — for me, this is the most comfortable shoe I’ve put on from Adidas, probably the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever put on, actually. I enjoy the colorways, the comfort level, the stability, how safe my ankle feels in it.
When you’re not wearing the Crazy Explosive on the court, what are you wearing from Adidas off the court?
Yeezys or the NMDs, one of the two. Sometimes some shell-toes [Superstar] — I switch it up.
