Adidas caught the attention of sneakerheads and runners alike last year with the release of its acclaimed Ultra Boost silhouette. On Wednesday, the athletic giant unveiled its latest iteration of the shoe, which arrives in stores next week.
The Adidas Ultra Boost Uncaged drops on adidas.com and select retail stores on June 29 and retail for $180. The shoe will debut in six colorways.
“Ultra Boost Uncaged combines the performance and innovation standard of Ultra Boost with the unique flair of our passionately creative fan base,” Ben Herath, VP of design for Adidas Running, said in a statement today. “Adidas is committed to making athletes better through innovation, and Ultra Boost Uncaged is another prime example of that pledge being met with the input of runners from around the world.”
Its most notable characteristic is the lack of cage that dressed its popular predecessor. The brand opted to create an internal midfoot skeleton for the shoe — built with support and comfort in mind — that uses technology it developed for its top sponsored track athletes.
The shoe boasts two of the brand’s renowned performance-based technologies: Boost and Primeknit. The shoe’s re-engineered Primeknit upper — which also features an adaptive knit collar — was constructed to provide flexible breathability and natural movement through each stride. And its full-length Boost midsole provides maximum energy return for the runner.
Additional updates to the silhouette include a tiered lacing system that allows runners to personalize style and fit (using flat laces for comfort and stability), and an internal support system. The Uncaged iteration also employs signature Ultra Boost features including a supportive heel counter with its iconic embossed Ultra Boost branding, and a Stretchweb Continental Rubber outsole that flexes naturally for greater traction.
