Adidas Football announced today that it would offer $1 million to the eligible pro prospect who breaks football’s professionally recognized 40-yard dash record in the 2016 Adizero 5-Star 40 cleats later this month. The current record, according to Adidas, is 4.24 seconds and has stood for eight years.
In recent years, Adidas Football has made a number of offers to pro prospects that push to the fastest 40-yard dash time in its cleats. In 2013, the brand offered an endorsement deal; in 2014 it offered $100,000 to the single fastest time, and $100,000 was offered in 2015 to the top three fastest times.
The cleats, according to Adidas Football, were specifically made for the 40-yard dash, weighing in at only 4.9 ounces. The latest iteration features photo-realistic 3D fire graphics. The cleats use the brand’s SprintSkin upper for reinforcement in key support zones and a SprintFrame football plate for better acceleration.
The cleats are available via the brand’s website, Eastbay.com and dickssportinggoods.com.
