‘Hamilton’ Tops List Of Tony Award Nominees

The wait is over: The Tony Award nominations were released this morning, and in not-so-shocking news, “Hamilton” topped the list with 16 nominations.

In the Best Musical category, the hit by creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda is up against “Waitress,” “Bright Star,” “School of Rock — The Musical” and “Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.”

The historical musical broke the record for the most nominations, previously held by “The Producers” and “Billy Elliot,” which each earned 15 nominations.”Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed” had 10 nominations.

Recently, FN spoke to Suttriat Anne Larlarb, the costume designer behind “Waitress,” about the shoes on the set:

“All the ladies are on their feet all day long, so you want to be true to that working-class environment,” she said. “There is choreography, too. Jenna [Jessie Mueller], whose life hasn’t turned out to be what she expected, doesn’t spend her money on things that don’t lead to a better effect for her, so her shoes are unremarkable. Becky [Keala Settle] has these loud turquoise suede heels with a leopard-skin top. For her wedding, Dawn [Kimiko Glenn], whose world has been the diner or home, has a neat pair of Keds that she bedazzled just a bit to indicate her blossoming, but not too much.”
