The American Apparel & Footwear Association has a new partner for the American Image Awards.
Each year, the awards ceremony honors top names in the fashion industry, and starting in 2017, the show will benefit the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s New York manufacturing effort. The CFDA’s Fashion Manufacturing Initiative, abbreviated as the FMI program, aims to support growth of designers and manufacturing in the New York Garment District and throughout the city.
“AAFA is deeply honored to partner with the CFDA and support its Fashion Manufacturing Initiative as our 2017 American Image Awards grant partner,” said AAFA President and CEO Rick Helfenbein. “We are committed to advancing the people, policies and processes that are imperative for our industry to grow and profit in a rapidly evolving economy.”
The FMI program, founded four years ago in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, provides grants to New York manufacturers so they can expand their facilities and support workforce training and professional development.
“The CFDA Fashion Manufacturing Initiative is an important program to preserve garment manufacturing in New York,” said Steven Kolb, president and CEO of the CFDA. “With the support of the AAFA, we are able to continue and expand those efforts.”
The awards ceremony this past spring honored industry names Iris Apfel, BBC International, Shinola Detroit, Christian Siriano and Joseph Abboud. Next year’s awards will take place on Monday, April 24, 2017 in New York.
