Hot on the heels of Rihanna and Manolo Blahnik‘s debut Denim Desserts collaboration in May comes the second iteration. The Savage collection, presumably named because it is so fierce, launches Wednesday.
Yes, the diva and the cobbler are taking their relationship to the next level with a new, seasonally appropriate line featuring three vertiginous styles of winter boot. They are inspired both by Rihanna’s penchant for suede and shearling and her love affair with the Timberland workboot. One of the new Savage collection models, the Fallon, is a rework of the iconic Timberland-style boot that Blahnik first designed in the 2000s.
In 2002, the style attracted a legion of fans for its stiletto-heeled take on the classic Timberland beloved of the R&B and hip-hop scenes. Beyoncé rocked it in her “Bonnie & Clyde” music video, and Jennifer Lopez also worked the look in the video for “Jenny From the Block.” In fact, Footwear News can exclusively reveal that the Fallon is also Rihanna’s very own homage to Lopez.
The Dominique is a thigh-high sheepskin-lined boot made of black pony skin, which can also be styled folded over at the top. The skin has been laser-cut in a macro floral brocade design rather close to the fabrications of RiRi’s Marie Antoinette inspired Fenty x Puma collection showcased at Paris Fashion Week.
The Alexis is a knee-length laceup with fur trim running around the top and down the laces. It comes in ivory and cinnamon.
But it’s the hero Fallon style with its fluffy reimagining of Blahnik’s classic “Timberland” that is generating the most excitement. This new adaptation, complete with furry trim, comes in both ivory and coffee colorways.
Rihanna actually sent Lopez a pair of the thigh-high, belted 9 to 5 denim boots from her first Manolo Blahnik capsule line. And as it turns out, her fellow musician was so enamored that she gave them a starring role in her “Ain’t Your Mama” music video. Now, though, Rihanna has more than returned the compliment.
All three styles from the Rihanna x Manolo Blahnik Savage collection are limited and will only be available to purchase in select Manolo Blahnik stores and online at manoloblahnik.com starting Wednesday.
