Brian Atwood has teamed up with Victoria’s Secret for the second consecutive year. The designer created the shoes for the lingerie company’s highly anticipated fashion show yet again.
The 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is set in Paris at the Grand Palais, and Atwood told Footwear News that he was “absolutely” inspired by the city of Paris.
“We knew these shoes had to be showstoppers and really capture the grandeur that is Paris,” he said.
Last year, the show’s 20th anniversary event took place in New York City, featuring shoes designed by Atwood. Standouts included his Butterfly collection shoes as well as the thigh-high American flag-inspired boots.
“The themes this year were very labor intensive and required a lot of attention in the construction of some of the shoes and boots,” Atwood said. “We used everything from feathers, crystals, perforated nappa to fluid fringe. Luckily we had already worked with the VS team last year on designing the shoes, which definitely made things easier.”
So far, 51 models are confirmed to walk in 82 looks for the show, with themes including The Road Ahead, Mountain Romance, Secret Angel, Dark Angel, Pink Nation and Bright Night Angel.
Atwood said he made nearly 100 shoes for the occasion, with colored fringe gladiator sandals, lace-up thigh-high boots and mesh, nylon embroidered boots among his favorites.
He was also involved in creating a Swarovski look for the show, which includes boots made with 1,630 crystals.
Gigi and Bella Hadid will be walking on the Victoria’s Secret runway come Dec. 5, along with Kendall Jenner, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio and other VS Angels.
Lady Gaga, The Weeknd and Bruno Mars are set to perform.
For Atwood, the best part of the process has been designing the shoes that won’t be covered by any long dresses, and “obviously sitting front row at the show watching these beauties in my shoes,” he added.
Be sure to tune to CBS on Dec. 5 when the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airs at 10 p.m. ET.
